External Affairs Officer
You will be part of a small, dynamic team at the heart of the Big Lottery Fund, and one that has a big part to play in the delivery of our Strategic Framework.

Funding Officers are responsible for our grant-making activity in a geographical area, including pre-application support, assessment, grant management and gathering and sharing learning. You will ensure that our funding responds to the local context, and challenge yourself and colleagues to continually improve the way we work.
You will build long term relationships with people and organisations in the area you cover, this will include reaching out to new and different groups, supporting people who are applying and continuing to work with them after a grant has been awarded.
You will be responsible for understanding how an organisation’s ideas align with our funding priorities, and making good judgements about when to take an application further or when to signpost to other opportunities.
You will combine local knowledge, understanding of best practice and the experience of grant holders to make informed recommendations about who and what we fund.
You will represent the Fund within your local area including at funding fairs and external meetings, and create opportunities for people to come together. You will share learning from your conversations, events, grant holder reports and evaluations with other colleagues so that we can maximise our impact.

Your role as OD Advisor, working in Talent and Organisational Development will be diverse and challenging.
Reporting to an Organisational Development Business Partner you will proactively support our people and teams delivering our ambitions outlined in our strategic framework.
You will offer advice and expertise to the Fund to help improve our performance, ultimately leading to greater effectiveness and efficiency delivering funding to the communities we serve. You may lead and manage either a project, team or an area of work, or a combination of all of these. You will have plenty of scope to work to high levels of autonomy and responsibility and be accountable for high levels of performance. Your work will include extensive stakeholder engagement and management, working in a collaborative and networked way across a number of functions and directorates across all levels.
You will conduct research, surveys, interviews to understand the current organisational context; analyse data; identify issues and investigate ways to solve them; develop options appraisals and recommendations; present findings in a written, oral and visual fashion; implement solutions.
You will bring innovative and creative solutions to business challenges, considering user led design principles within a flexible and results focussed approach, to ensure that we offer the most suitable and effective learning solutions to teams across the organisation.
Consultation and facilitation are key components to the role so you will be at ease working with a range of people at all levels across the organisation and have experience of, and feel comfortable with, presenting information to groups. Our approach to learning is moving to more facilitative and person led so you should also have an aspiration for coaching and facilitation.
As a team we embrace new technologies and exploring how to do things more effectively so you will need to have a drive for continuous improvement.
Due to the nature of the role there will be the requirement for regular travel across all of the Fund offices.
