How to Apply
Our application process is designed to get the best from all kinds of people. We’ve made it as straightforward as possible. But we recommend taking some time to find out what we’re looking for, and what you can expect from us. Here, you can find tips on everything from completing your application form, to interview technique.
If your preferred programme isn’t currently available, please join our Smart Network to be the first to know about new openings. You’ll then receive updates listing the roles that are available in the business area and location of your choice.
As you’d expect, our standards are very high, and there is naturally a lot of competition. So, not everyone is offered a job. But we have designed our application process to give you the best chance of being your best. And we’ve put together some tips to help you make the most of the opportunity.
KPMG recruits on a rolling basis, and some routes fill faster than others, so we’d encourage you to apply as early as possible. Typically we open for applications every year around July time and the majority of KPMG’s Launch Pad recruitment events usually take place between October and December. Give sufficient time and attention to your online application form. At the relevant stage of the recruitment process, it will be read by a member of the recruitment team and they’ll use the information you provide to decide whether to take your application further. If you secure a role with us, your academic certificates will be checked against your application, so please make sure your application is accurate.
Make sure you practice the online tests. There are a range of practice tests online including verbal & numerical reasoning and situational judgement tests, so we advise you make use of these. And do your research. There’s a lot of information about our recruitment process on this website. Use it to prepare yourself. Don’t forget – you only have 7 days from invitation to complete the tests. Don’t apply until you have the time to complete them.
Our behavioural capabilities are important to us, and you will be assessed on these throughout the entire recruitment process. We recommend getting to know each of the capabilities and preparing examples of when you may have demonstrated each behaviour. The Application Process

Stage 1: Online Application Form
This is your chance to tell us about your academic background and any work experience you may have undertaken. This should take about 20 minutes to complete and you won’t need to upload a CV.
Stage 2: Situational Judgement Test
After submitting your application form, you’ll receive a link to a Situational Judgement Test (SJT) within one working day. We’ll ask you to consider hypothetical, challenging situations that you might encounter as a trainee with KPMG. You’ll have a choice of possible responses to each one.
Although the test is untimed, the recommended time to complete it is 30 minutes and you will need to take this in the same sitting. You’ll need to do so within seven days, so please don’t apply until you know you’ll have time.
Stage 3: Online Numerical and Verbal Reasoning Tests
If you’re successful in your SJT, you will be asked to complete online verbal and numerical reasoning tests. Designed especially for KPMG, they look at your ability to analyse numerical and verbal data – skills that you’ll need on the job.
Each test will take around 20 minutes and is timed, so make sure you have enough time before you begin as each test will need to be taken in the same sitting. As with the SJT, you’ll need to do so within 7 days. We strongly advise that you practice similar tests before you complete the KPMG ones.
Practice as much as possible before taking both the numerical and verbal reasoning tests, even if you’ve taken them before, by:
- Visiting your careers service and trying some sample tests. They may provide feedback, helping you to focus on areas that can be improved.
- Checking out any books available. Many have practical examples and answers, so you can see what you need to learn before the real thing.

Some other things to consider if you’re invited to sit the online tests:
- Make sure you’re relaxed and prepared before you start.
- Don’t expect to finish the tests. They’re designed to put you under time pressure.
- Sometimes the practice tests can seem easier than the real thing.
- Make sure that you’re in an environment where you can concentrate and feel comfortable
- Let us know beforehand if you need any reasonable adjustments
Stage 4: Digital Submission
If you’re successful in the reasoning tests, you’ll be invited to a complete a digital submission in audio format. This 120 second audio submission is an opportunity for you to demonstrate both your communication skills and your motivation towards a career at KPMG.
In your digital submission, we will be assessing the KPMG behavioural capabilities, ‘Career Motivation’, ‘Seizes Business Opportunities’, and ‘Makes an Impact’.
You will have three days to submit your recording, so please make sure you have time to complete this.
Stage 5: Launch Pad Recruitment Event
If your digital submission is successful we’ll invite you to attend a Launch Pad event, this is the final stage of the recruitment process.
Launch Pad will combine assessment with the opportunity for you to learn more about the fantastic career opportunities available at KPMG. During the day we will be looking for you to demonstrate the KPMG behavioural capabilities that will give us the confidence that you will be successful in our Firm.
Throughout the day, you will also have the opportunity to meet lots of our people, including those within the area you have applied to, from Partners to Graduate Trainees.
If successful you will have your job offer within two working days!
If you are unsuccessful you will be offered the option to request feedback.
