Engineering Team Coordinator

In this role your main responsibilities will be for the management, prioritisation and allocation of ad-hoc reactive engineering tasks and ensuring that planned tasks are carried out to the correct standards.

The ideal candidate for the role will be able to demonstrate that they can:

  • Have practical mechanical and electrical experience within a production environment
  • Have an Approved Engineering or Mechanical Apprenticeship (City & Guilds and National Certificate)

Overall Purpose of the Role

Responsible for the management, prioritisation & allocation of ad-hoc reactive engineering tasks and ensuring that planned tasks are carried out to the correct standards.

  • Communicating and aligning with Production Shift Managers, Senior Production Manager and relevant Production Team Coordinators
  • Focusing Engineers to the daily priorities will be key, along with managing contractors, works during their shift, ensuring processes and protocols are adhered to.
  • To liaise with the site engineering and Off-line engineering as required.
  • Carry out all other ad-hoc Management requests as consistent with the role

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Performance Management

  • Be the Engineering point of contact during & out of hours
  • Understand the site daily priorities / plans, direct and motivate their engineering shift team as required
  • Respond to and prioritise the shift to resolve line running issues
  • Liaise with both the Production Team Coordinators & On-Line Engineers to ensure correct level on communication across shifts
  • Report and update the Production Management team and other stake holders regarding current breakdown status, impact and lead time to resolution
  • Highlight and put into place contingency plans
  • Be the point of contact and direction for contractors
  • Supply critical information delivered via handovers to feed daily Loss & DDS Meetings
  • Ensure delivery of the team’s planned maintenance (PM) work
  • Work closely with Offline Engineering Team for two-way support
  • Understand daily plans, customer service and PPC requirements

Team Management

  • Lead by example, embrace the company values & encourage a team mentality
  • Effective day to day management of a small team across a designated area with direct focus on supporting the operations and meeting core KPIs (PE; KM Audit; RFT; YIELD MTBF; MTBS)
    work with the other ETC to ensue adequate cover between shifts
  • Strive to reduce absence levels in line with the Maximising Attendance policy
  • First line management of employee relations issues assisting as consistent with the role

Team development

  • Assist in identifying and arranging both on and off-line training needs for their team:
    Identify skills gaps
  • Develop training plans with team members and measure performance against this
  • Identify on-line trainers and match engineers to support
  • Organise training and assessment if and when appropriate
  • Continually assess team and individual performance for input into and delivery of Employee Development Reviews (EDRs)
  • Build relationships and provide constructive feedback to individuals through regular one-to-one contact
  • Support the Senior Production Manager in addressing issues relating to poor performance documenting these in accordance to policies and procedures referring to HR where necessary
  • Review new starters and ensure that induction programmes and training plans are in place and are followed

Quality Standards

  • Ensure ways of working reduce risk to products to as low as reasonably practicable
  • Ensure team adherence to pre-requisite standards such as PPE and personal hygiene
  • Compliance with HACCP, hygiene rules and PQC requirements and report any issues/concerns to QA
  • Sign QIRs and ensure feedback on outcomes

Cost deployment & Loss analysis

  • Understand losses and support CI work to reduce or eradicate loses
  • Ensure robust application of CIL
  • Coordinate On-line Technicians to support the weekly AM sessions and ensure that the team is fully utilised and productive
  • Support equipment and materials trials as required

Safety

  • Drive safe ways of working, GMP and quality processes
  • Ensure engineering training documentation is available, generated and reviewed appropriately
  • Co-ordinate refresher training to ensure that On-Line engineering team meets business requirements (including new starters)
  • Investigate, report and record all accidents/ incidents/ near miss using the appropriate documentation. Ensure recommendations are communicated and applied
  • Actively participate in hazard identification and the risk assessment process (ALARP), including (TOPS) safety tours and safe behaviour visits ensuring that Gold Tags are completed
  • Have an awareness of Health and Safety and how actions affect others and follow safe working practices and behaviours at all times e.g. correct use of PPE

Working Conditions and/ or Physical Requirements

  • Role involves some heavy lifting and requires the ability to work around and under machinery
  • Shift work across a set pre-established pattern although will be required to remain flexible to cover colleagues
    · Contact number needs to be available in Security for emergency response or assistance.

  • Have the ability to cope with full working day including shift work (
  • Be able to get to work and exit safely
  • Meet the medical standards as per the site’s medical surveillance requirements.
  • Have the ability to work in confined spaces
  • Be able to see, corrected or uncorrected, close up and into the distance (when required to operate powered trucks)

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Specialist knowledge/Functional/Technical skills/Qualifications

Essential:

  • Approved Engineering or Mechanical apprentice (City & Guilds and National Certificate)
    Fault-finding skills
  • Understanding of problem-solving techniques; RCA, 5W
  • Experience and understanding of machine controls and PLCs
  • To be competent in a range of technical skills covering mechanical, pneumatics, machining, welding and fabrication and electrical disciplines.
  • To have a sound knowledge of electrical distribution systems
  • Understanding of professional maintenance techniques; Predictive, Preventative, Condition based & Planned
  • Knowledge of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and HACCP

Desirable:

  • Computer literate
  • SAP transaction PM102 Engineering
  • Understanding of DSEAR and ATEX
  • IPAF / working at height / managing working at height trained
  • Accident investigation training

Experience

Essential:

  • Practical mechanical and electrical experience within a production environment

Desirable:

  • Demonstrable understanding of Production prioritisation

Leadership and People Management

Essential:

  • Good people skills and evidence of team-working within a supervisory capacity
