Administrative and Other Related Staff
The Research Contracts Officer will as part of the team of contracts officers take responsibility for a large and broad case load of contracts relating in the most to the University research work. This can range from charitable grants to multi-party collaboration agreements involving a number of partner organisations across the EU and globally.
Your ain duties will be:
– Draft, review, negotiate and approve contractual terms in University contracts to ensure optimisation of University position and minimisation of risk.
– Correspond with academics, research officers, University Birmingham Enterprise and other research organisations and companies in relation to the transactions dealt with to settle terms and advise upon their meaning
– Provide accurate succinct advice to instructing academics as to the contracts they wish to enter into.
– Develop expertise in particular specialist contract types and colleges within the University, developing good working relationships with academics in those colleges
– Liaise with other research support departments to ensur eall regulatory and necessary approval are in place
Person Specification
Essential
Experience of working in a university or a research organisation, including industry and/or a law environment and/ or hands-on academic research experience.
Knowledge of key research contract related issues (e.g. intellectual property, publication, confidentiality, VAT, indemnities, liabilities).
A clear understanding for the need and practice of customer focus and customer relationship skills whilst using tact, diplomacy and the ability to influence and persuade a broad range of individuals.
Ability to prioritise and manage a large, complex workload, taking ownership of a variety of tasks, managing and responding to shifting priorities, progressing numerous projects at any one time to deliver exceptional customer service at all times.

Desirable :
Law/ postgraduate research degree OR significant experience in an equivalent role/job
Demonstrated experience of drafting, negotiating and concluding a wide range and high volume of research contracts in the Higher Education or charity sectors
Experience of identifying and managing risks associated with negotiation of a wide variety of research contracts including EU, clinical trials, strategic agreements etc.
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
High level of competency and knowledge of standard software packages e.g. Word, Excel, Access

Accommodation Officer

Student Accommodation is part of the Hospitality and Accommodation Services directorate at the University of Birmingham. The majority of student accommodation has been developed or refurbished over the last 10 years at an investment in excess of £100m. The University of Birmingham currently provides accommodation for c6000 students who are predominantly 1st year undergraduate and postgraduate students, the vast majority of 2nd and 3rd year students live in the neighbouring community in private sector housing.

The Accommodation Officer will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive accommodation service to all students and staff members of the University of Birmingham. You will be joining the Living team who are based in a shop and office called Living which is located in the retail area of campus. The Living team is responsible for the delivery of an efficient accommodation service at the University of Birmingham, and work closely with colleagues across Student Accommodation. The team play a major role in ensuring that university owned and managed bed spaces are fully occupied and that excellent customer care is provided at all times, with Student Accommodation often being the first point of contact a prospective student has with the University. Living also provides advice, information and support to students living in the private sector and is a liaison point for matters relating to the local community.

Catering Assistant

This role will be 16hrs per week over a 34 week period during term time working between the hours of 4pm and 10pm 4 days out of 7 days and working to support open days and conference events

Salary

Full time starting salary £15,818 to £16,102. With potential progression once in post to £18,415 a year.

New staff are eligible to join the University’s new defined contribution pension scheme. Existing staff may continue to receive their current benefits.

General Assistant

The post holder will be required to work at new JC’s restaurant which provides catering for over 1500 students for 5 days of the week. The post requires the candidate to work in the evening between the hours of 4pm and 10pm where the candidate will be expected to work in an orderly and efficient manner to the standards set by legislation/HAS and University policies and guidelines, specifically duties will involve serving students and staff table service meals with excellent customer service along with associated tasks as required which will include, cleaning of dining areas after service, Preparing desserts, working on the tills in the restaurant and the bar area cash handling and recording of temperatures.

This position is for 20 hrs per week, for 31 weeks per year, working 5 days out of 7 days mainly Monday to Friday between the hours of 3pm and 10pm.
