Accounts Assistant – Cashier
The post holder will responsible for Managing the weekly cashier service and will ideally have experience of working with cash and foreign currency and dealing with the bank directly. They will manage the International Payment orders process, payments made in foreign currencies worldwide and control the workload of the assistant Cashier on a day-to-day basis.
The Cashier will provide payment advice and guidance on banking procedures and processing support to 180 departments and to the Finance Division.
The cashier will also work directly with the Accounts Payable and Receivable teams and provide assistance and input of International Payment order payment numbers and Reconciliation of payments to the bank entries.
Chief Teaching/General Laboratory Technician
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Pharmacology, initially on a fixed term basis, to carry out a key role in an active teaching laboratory. The work is interesting and varied so will require someone who is flexible with excellent organisational and problem-solving skills The role holder will have overall responsibility for organising support for practical teaching classes being delivered to a total of more than 400 students which the department teaches on the Medical, Veterinary and Natural Science courses. This includes: -preparation of scientific equipment and reagents -collection and distribution of biological materials -provision and maintenance of teaching equipment -management of staff and budgets associated with the facility. They will also be required to maintain electronic aids for teaching undergraduates and graduates and will be expected to provide an excellent support service to departmental teaching generally. The ability to follow standard operating procedures and risk assessments is essential. Heavy lifting is sometimes required, and sharp instruments and hazardous chemicals are used on a regular basis. Familiarity with Health and Safety procedures in a working environment is therefore desirable, along with the ability to communicate these to other staff and students. Applicants should be educated to HNC or equivalent in a biological subject and GCSE level in English and Maths. The ability to work effectively and enthusiastically, both autonomously and as part of a wider team, attention to detail and excellent IT skills are essential requirements. Applicants must be comfortable communicating with staff and students at all levels. Whilst prior experience of working in a biological sciences laboratory is highly desirable, training will be offered in post if a candidate displays an aptitude for all other aspects of this role and has the essential skills listed above.
We are looking to recruit an additional person to join our team of cleaners that provide cleaning to a high standard to the entire Department, much of which is newly refurbished. The duties will include thorough cleaning of all areas, including research laboratories, offices, teaching and meeting rooms, kitchen, communal areas, stairways, and toilets. You will be required to work 15 hours per week, 6.00 – 9.00 am Monday to Friday.
