You will work within the Health Economics and Decision Science (HEDS) Section ( of the
School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR). We are seeking a Programme Administrator to support the National
Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)-funded Decision Support Unit (DSU) and the Economic Methods of
Evaluation in Health and Care Research Policy Research Unit (EEPRU), funded by the Department of Health and Social Care

overall programmes of work and to support the smooth day-today operation of the projects that form the work programmes.

Technical Fellow

We have an exciting opportunity for someone with strong technical leadership skills and the ability to steer the technical
direction of the AMRC North West team whilst ensuring projects are delivered successfully. You will join the AMRC North
West at inception and play a part in placing Lancashire amongst the most innovative regions in the UK, joining a
well-connected team with world-leading reputations.

You will use your knowledge of digital manufacturing systems and your understanding of lean production, to provide
essential support and leadership to the AMRC North West team.

Research Associate

As a Research Associate, you will join Professor Mikko Juusola’s laboratory and will be responsible for undertaking
independent research aimed at elucidating neural processing of object feature information in the first optic neuropile, the
lamina ganglionaris, of Drosophila visual system. This research will require a range of techniques, including in vivo
intracellular electrophysiology, fly genetics, live optical Ca2+ -imaging (two-photon microscopy), electron-microscopy and
behavioural measurements. You should have knowledge of and expertise in in vivo intracellular electrophysiology and/or
optical Calcium-imaging. Prior experience in the mathematical analysis or electrophysiology is highly desirable. The ability to
work in a team is essential.

Meanwhile, you will work on the experimental objectives of Professor Juusola’s research project to quantify and analyse how neural connections (synaptic networks) between photoreceptor axons and interneurons process visual object feature
information in the Drosophila eyes/brain.

You are required to be able to contribute significantly to the ongoing research in Professor Juusola’s laboratory by designing,
developing and performing experiments, participating in the data analysis and disseminating the findings by writing papers
and abstracts to be presented at conferences and seminars. You will work in collaboration with PhD students, participating in
these studies, but will report directly to Professor Juusola.
